Junk Food Ads for Kids

Junk Food Ads for KidsHi everyone – Tuesday’s Health Tip is straight from the headlines this morning! Disney children’s channels are eliminating junk food ads for kids! Yahoo! Here is a bit of the press release:

By 2015, all food and beverage products that are advertised, promoted or sponsored on the Disney ChannelDisney XD, Disney Junior, Radio Disney, Disney.com and Saturday morning programming for kids on ABC-owned stations (Disney owns ABC) will have to meet the company’s nutrition criteria for limiting calories and reducing saturated fat, sodium and sugar.  Full article.

This is great news for sure. But really how are they going to replace things like, I don’t know, revenue?! Here is a online news brief that sheds some light on that.

Now I am not saying my kids sit and watch Disney all day long (don’t ya be looking at my DVR), but they get enough of it to influence them. Wonder if Nickelodeon and the others will take notice. You know what they say – Garbage in Garbage Out!
