Being the Best Mom

Being the Best MomBeing the best mom has taken on new meaning for me. I used to equate Best Mom with Super Mom. But as I have been learning the last years of parenting, it is more than doing for the kids everything I can (and usually way more!).

There are priorities in life. And mothering is no exception. Time and child’s age will dictate some of how these priorities fall, but care for yourself as a person will make you the best mom you can be. After all, it does say “love others as you love yourself“. So if you aren’t taking care/loving yourself, you will be hardpressed to be loving others. Is this starting to make sense? Put that ABC’s of Parenting book down on your nightstand, get a great cup of tea or glass of wine and sit back. This article will release you from the treadmill and unleash the inner mom you are suppose to be.

 Being the Best Mom

Our lives can be crazy on a good day and on those days that aren’t so good, I really try to look at my day and see what I need to do to improve it.  There are things that I try to do each day – not that I do them all every day – but I try!  I thought I would share them with you and maybe you might find some helpful:

  1. Eat healthy – This year I have been trying to go gluten free.  Though I’m not in the best place with this right now, I am slowly getting back on track in preparation for the Summer Kick-Off Sugar Free Challenge.
  2. Meditate – I know that not everyone is into meditation, but even 10 minutes a day makes a huge difference in my stress level.  Along with meditation, I also practice Reiki.  I love it!
  3. Get organized – Being organized at home gives you more control over your life.  If your house is cluttered, you will likely find that life is hectic.  There are many websites that you can find to help get organized… both at home and in your day to day life.
  4. Accept what you have – We are all famous for trying to ‘Keep up with the Joneses’.  We need to be happy with where we are and what we have in life.  As much as I sometimes would like to have ‘more’, it only adds extra stress in my life.  So be happy with and accept what you have… there are many in the world that aren’t as lucky! Full article.

You must read all the tips in the above article. They are not hard “to do list” type of ideas, they are lifestyle ideas.

Laughter is huge! It releases the stress and lightens the mood. Letting your kiddo know they are important to you (no matter what they DO!) – bonus!

Being the best mom boils down to first taking care of you. Sounds self-centered? Not at all. You can’t take care of anyone else if you are not taken care of. Salute!
